CULTURE
Programs for all ages are planned throughout the year by Young People’s Services and Adult Services. Meeting rooms are available for library-sponsored programs and for use by non-for-profit organizations. Reciprocal borrowing privileges are available from over 40 area libraries, through membership in the North Suburban Library System (North Suburban Library System).
RECREATION
From the peaceful solitude of a walk along a nature trail or a horseback ride through the countryside, to the lively team spirit displayed on a sand volleyball court or soccer field, there are recreational activities of every type available to Barrington area residents.
The four parks of the Barrington Park District incorporate a total of 137 acres. The largest, Ron Breese Park with 80 acres of recreational area including six soccer fields, two softball fields, two sand volleyball courts and a picnic shelter. The balance of the park features hiking, cross-country ski and fitness trails; garden plots and a nature study area.
Langendorf Park’s 37 acres include picnic sites; a five-hole, par 3 golf course; a complex of three swimming pools; five baseball diamonds; seven outdoor tennis courts; two platform tennis courts designed for all season play; three outdoor basketball courts; a sand volleyball court; horseshoe courts; a playground and a tot lot. The large field house has a full-size gymnasium and craft and meeting rooms. A wildlife area houses a collection of animal and exotic birds.
A wide range of instructional classes, organized recreation and leagues for young people and adults are offered through the Park District. Programs include fitness, baseball, softball, tennis, swimming, scuba, martial arts, golf, roller blade hockey, in-line skating, volleyball leagues, ballroom dancing, cooking classes, and a variety of arts and crafts. There are also many sports camps and clinics specializing in basketball, soccer, cheer leading, volleyball, softball and lacrosse.
Seniors can participate in a wide array of programs, services and activities sponsored by the Barrington Area Council on Aging (Barrington Area Council on Aging). The program calendar includes low impact aerobics, swimming, golf, arts and crafts, lecture series, theater trips, musical programs and heath screening.
The Barrington area with its rural beauty is perfect horse country. Numerous residents maintain horses at various clubs and centers, and enjoy the miles of trails that wind through the area. Private polo and hunt clubs offer additional activities for horse lovers, as well as horse shows for the public.
WORSHIP
From the early days of circuit-riding preachers visiting the settlements, the people of the Barrington area have sought spiritual growth through their religious faiths.
