Ivanhoe Club
The Ivanhoe Club
The Ivanhoe Club is an exclusive, nationally recognized country club located in the center of Lake County, Illinois. Since its opening in 1991, Ivanhoe has been regularly recognized by Golf Digest as one of the Top 25 championship golf courses in Illinois.
Ivanhoe, Illinois (May, 2004) – The $4.5 million renovation of the 27 hole Ivanhoe has been completed. The Club plans to reopen (what many are calling a “remarkable rebirth” to tournament caliber venue) on June 16th to its members, the media, and members of golf governing bodies as well as invited dignitaries.
Visitors to Ivanhoe are often taken back when they enter the 380-acre land area. After admittance through the main gate and a beautiful drive through the winding roads leading to the clubhouse that feature large stately homes, they burst through to an impressive scene with the 15 acre Lake Ivanhoe in front of the massive clubhouse. Two rustic log cabins dating to the early 1800’s remain in close proximity to the clubhouse and Lake Ivanhoe offering a glimpse at history.
Without a doubt the Ivanhoe Club is as beautiful as any golf course in the country. Water features are a prominent part of the Ivanhoe golf experience, with 15 lakes and ponds, a manmade waterfall and countless bridges. Over 4,000 trees frame the fairways and scores of ornamental flowerbeds feature horticultural themes that compliment each particular nine holes. Ivanhoe is one of a select few clubs to earn Certified Signature Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary status in America.
Ivanhoe offers three distinct nine hole courses; the Forest, the Prairie, and the Marsh.
The rolling terrain of the Forest Nine marks the highest spot in Lake County and features tight, tree lined fairways. Its two landmark 80-foot high windmills with the distinctive Ivanhoe logo can be seen for miles around. Oak and hickory trees line the fairways and offer the stiffest test of golf.
The Prairie Nine, with its grassy hillocks and beautiful waves of native Prairie grass, offers golfers a links style challenge second to none in Illinois. Very deep greenside bunkers that test golfers of all abilities complement the beautiful Prairie grass. Wildflowers abound on the Prairie Nine and frame each hole like a Picasso painting.
The Marsh Nine embraces the wildlife that uses wetlands. Herons, red winged blackbirds, terns and turtles can be seen at a close distance, even by the casual observer. The Marsh Nine closes with a spectacular Par Four hole that features an elevated tee over Lake Ivanhoe requiring a long, accurate shot to an island fairway followed by a second shot over water to a heavily guarded green that sits just below the 66,000 square foot clubhouse and overlooks Lake Ivanhoe.
Golf World magazine states Marsh Hole number 9 and Forest Hole number 9 that wind around the lake are two of the prettiest finishing holes in golf.
In the year 2000, nationally recognized golf architect Arthur Hills was hired to update and renovate all three nines, and the project was completed in 2004. Already, critical acclaim has been received with the Ivanhoe Club destined to take its place among the Top 100 Courses in America.
Ivanhoe is a true family club with active swimming and tennis programs run by full time award winning professionals. Year round events cater to the needs and desires of members and their children.
One visit to Ivanhoe quickly confirms it is a unique, without peer country club recognized nationally as a top of the line venue.
